In previous years the gala has been the Chic-I-Boom Ball, named after the first special shape balloon. The CHIC-I-BOOM Ball was a fun one. We honored the first special-shaped hot air balloon at Balloon Fiesta® the brand inspiration for the Gala #ChicIBoomBall Challenge: When tasked with designing and organizing "The Chic-I-Boom Ball" fundraiser at The Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum, our mission was twofold: to create an unforgettable event inspired by the vibrant spirit of Carmen Miranda while also raising funds for the museum foundation. As the art director, alongside designer Britt Archuleta, our challenge was to infuse the event with the exuberance of CHIC-I-BOOM's style while maximizing its potential for fundraising success. Solution: Drawing inspiration from Carmen Miranda's vivacious personality and iconic aesthetic, Britt and I crafted a design concept that celebrated her legacy while capturing the attention of potential donors. We incorporated elements such as tropical fruits, bold colors, and lively patterns into the event's visual identity, from invitations to billboards, to evoke the joy and energy of Carmen Miranda's performances. In addition to creating an immersive experience with vibrant decor and entertainment inspired by Miranda's legacy, we strategically integrated fundraising initiatives throughout the event. From silent auctions featuring unique experiences and artwork to donation stations strategically placed around the venue, we provided multiple opportunities for guests to contribute to the cause while enjoying the festivities. Result: "The CHIC-I-BOOM Ball" fundraiser was a resounding success, exceeding our expectations in both its celebration of the legacy of the first special shapes balloon and its financial impact. Guests were welcomed by the vibrant atmosphere, with many commenting on the event's unique and immersive experience. Through the strategic integration of fundraising initiatives, we were able to raise significant funds for the Foundation, providing essential support for the museum's programs and initiatives. The event not only celebrated the Museum's legacy but also demonstrated the power of community and generosity in making a positive impact.
